Classroom Rules and Expectations

The purpose of this class is to energize students with a better understanding of real life world of making money, budgeting their spending, investments, making sound purchasing decisions.  We will also talk about checking/savings accounts, IRAs, and 401Ks.  In this class we will use a program created by H&R Block, which will allow the students to live their life, before they have to “live their life!”  It will be a computer generated walk through life.

Attendance:  Regular attendance in class is obviously essential to the learning process and is expected of all students.  In the event of an absence, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what work was missed and have it completed upon your return to class.

Behavior:  I will treat the classroom very similar to how you are treated in the “real” world.  I expect students to be in uniform, prepared for class, and courteous in all situations.  If it becomes habit for the student to be tardy, it could potentially result in the lowering of your final grade.  I expect students to properly use their computer accounts.  Games, Streaming Video, and inappropriate pictures/websites will not be tolerated.  In addition, there is no food or drinks allowed in the computer lab, and a violation of these rules, or to the DeMatha Computer Code of Ethics, can result in a loss to your privilege to use the computer at DeMatha Catholic High School.

Grading Scale:  Your grade will be calculated off total possible points.  These points will be accumulated based upon quizzes, tests, class work, projects, and homework.

A = 100-94 / A- = 93-90 / B = 89-84 / B- = 83-80 / C = 79-74 / C- = 73-70 / D = 69-65 / F =  < 65

Homework/Class work:  Homework/Class work will be given out and checked regularly and will include various assignments.  Homework is generally 20-40 points (depending on the number of questions). There will also be multiple projects which will be done in class (on the computer).  They will vary in points.

Materials Needed:  Each student should have the book for reference (Get A Financial Life), a notebook to take notes, and a pen and pencil.

Tests and Quizzes: Each chapter will have at least one quiz.  Students will be tested twice a quarter.  A review will be done the class period before the announced quiz/test dates.
